Planning - How many devices do I need? How many sensors are possible?

Let’s say a few things about the typical range of sensors and antennas. It will help you to estimate how many EnoDisc® you need for your project. We also clarify the question of how many sensors the system supports.

EnoDisc® - Antenna planning

Fundamentals

Conservative planning - approx. 12 m radius

The typical coverage of an EnoDisc® with a planning radius of around 12 m is approx. 450 m². In a typical office building like the one shown here, we would assume poor penetration of the solid walls in the middle corridor. Elevator shafts and fire protection walls also significantly reduce the range. We therefore assume one position above and one below the corridor. If we exclude the stairwell on the left, we arrive at a number of e.g. 5 units in the planning phase. In practice, you can sometimes manage with fewer.

As with all antennas, the number of EnoDisc® required depends on the building structure. In this outlined case, we would plan 5 EnoDiscs to reliably cover the office space without detailed knowledge of the future furnishings.

Planning security

No additional costs or license fees!

Our system delivers data in JSON format to the MQTT broker of your choice.

No running costs
Scalable to any size
No additional license fees per sensor as with other providers

Each VL-700 BASE supports up to 32 EnoDisc® and 500 sensors (profiles with 4 bytes each).

Sustainability

No Batteries! if it makes sense and is technically reliable

Our sensors are all based on the EnOcean wireless standard ISO/IEC 14543-3-10:2020. However, it is not the case that all our sensors also work without batteries. In some cases, this is neither technically feasible nor possible due to energy requirements:

Rooms with automated lighting switch-off
Rooms without windows, such as prayer or nursing rooms
Workstations / tables on which things regularly cover the sensors and thus the solar cells
Countries / areas with little daylight at times
Sensors with currently high energy requirements such as VOC

You can’t always do without batteries. What is more important to us in these cases is responsible handling with regard to their use in our products.

The radio protocol of all products is specified in the ISO/IEC 14543-3-10:2020 standard.

This clearly defines the communication of devices that are distributed by the companies in the EnOcean Alliance with the EnOcean radio protocol.

EnOcean GmbH develops, produces and supplies white label products such as sensors to members of the EnOcean Alliance.

The portfolio also includes licensed technologies and technology products in the form of radio transceivers (TCMxxx), which member companies use in their products.

These always focus on energy harvesting.

Like DEUTA Controls GmbH (participant), EnOcean GmbH is part of the EnOcean Alliance (promoter).
